Hello and welcome to my hairy blog. It is Day 17 of #Fahrenbruary.

Today I bring to you a guest post by none other than Graham Wynd, author of the devilishly gruesome and naughty novella, Satan’s Sorority. This is a fantastic story of sorority house, Sigma Tau Nu, and of the Satanically murderous antics of the girls who dwell there. You can find my repost of Matt Keyes excellent review HERE.

When I asked Graham to write me a guest post for Fahrenbruary he immediately agreed. Graham also kindly answered some questions for me and they will appear tomorrow on Day 18 😁

There was a weird collision of things that led to my writing SATAN’S SORORITY and those devilish girls of Sigma Tau Nu. The first of course was Chris Black starting Number 13 Press and looking for noir novellas with a bite. That led to several free-floating ideas coming together with a bang.

The first one was my fondness for satanic/psychic 70s movies. Things like The Initiation of Sarah, Satan’s Schools for Girls, The Devil’s Rain, Race with the Devil, Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby (I wrote about a bunch of them for Paul Brazill’s blog). More than the celebrated big budget films like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, these were the movies my brothers and I watched on television over and over. They stuck in my mind in a different way than the ‘good’ movies.

Another influence was a cool exhibit at the Beinecke Library on alchemical books. I love a book of magic, the older the better. There were so many great illustrations in that show that really fired my writer’s brain. The book of magic the gals go after in SATAN’S SORORITY is real, too, though I fiddled with the timeline a little because the Beinecke didn’t have it in 1958 (sue me, it’s fiction). I was chuffed the library retweeted me saying I found inspiration for my book at their exhibit.

I suppose another influence was the insufferable experiences I had with frat boys at a certain Connecticut university which the setting may be loosely based on. I’m not saying all frat boys are bad or that they’re just like they’ve been portrayed in films like Animal House, but my experiences left a lot to be desired. I did my best to keep away from them. I had some fun with my Sigma Tau Nu gals bringing them to a bloody end though. That’s why fiction is so satisfying.

I couldn’t have been more pleased when Fahrenheit Press partnered with Chris to re-release the 13 novellas. They’re a great bunch to be associated with and I hope to write more with them. After all, there are some survivors from SATAN’S SORORITY. There’s always more devilry to get up to…
